How Did You Become Who You Are?

In my job, I am charged with making young people from grades K-12 aware of the many different health professionals.  It is my hope that the experiences that I/we provide will aid in students becoming health professionals.  Was there an experience that aided you in choosing your current profession?

It's no accident that we are who we are. We are influenced by our environmentin every aspect of our life. I'm sure we all have heard the pharse, "He/She is a product of their environment." I like to think that our youth can be the salt of the Earth. Therefore, they make the environment a product of themselves. Personally, I am who I am because of loving, patient, and God fearing parents, grandparents, and caring mentors.

Bernard,
What do you think has been the cause for the declined interest in the health field? Do you remember when these professionals were held in such high esteem? Does this remind you of teaching? Are the salaries similar? If so, do you think that salaries have an impact...The research continues to imply that in teaching it does not, but I beg to differ.

Sheila,
I don't think that there is a decline in the interest of health care careers. I just think that there are many different options available and people are making decisions soley based on monetary gains instead of a true passion for the trade.

I think it is possible to shape a life, by making the environment what you'd like the life to be or be like. Also, exposure and adaptation can shift an individual from one place to another. We have also learned that technological determinism may take place with out our even being aware of it. I too attibute my being to my immediate family, parents and to a lesser extent, my sisters and brother, my church families over the years, and some other wonderful people whom I met along the way.

Hi Bernard,

I finally made it to your blog.I believe that I became who I am based on the people that I came in contact with throughout my whole life. I believe the impact of my life's experiences helped to mold me into the person that I am today. I believe that you influence people that you come in contact with everyday.

Bernard,
It is my belief that you are the sum total of all your experiences. The decisions were made form the moment you were born. Your inate abilities, the nuturing, love and stimulation molds your actions character and sustains you in your environment. The devine power has control and His guidance and parental opportunities extended as well as the oportunities withheld have a tremendous affect on who and what we select as our career. Jobs are easy to fill but a career seeker has a passion and skill level that delivers excellence. I have always had a love of learning. My high school junior year was a turning point when I begin to serve as a teacher helper. Somehow, I never stopped teaching.
